Dr. Steeley

Dr. Mark Steeley, DVM, graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. He had attended the University of Tennessee previous to that and graduated with an Associate Arts Degree from Coconino Community College in Flagstaff, Arizona. Dr. Steeley has been at Chilhowee Veterinary Clinic since 2007 and took over ownership in 2012. He has a special interest in medicine, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. Previous to college, Dr. Steeley was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, where he served for 6 years as an aircraft mechanic. He has always loved animals, and veterinary medicine was a natural choice and progression in his life.

Dr. Steeley enjoys backpacking, running, Crossfit, mowing, working on his farm, and anything outside. He recently adopted 2 retired performance horses, Doxx and Abe, to live out the rest of their days on his farm. Dr. Steeley is married with three adult children and three awesome granddaughters.

Dr. Archer

Dr. Becca Archer is a 2005 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school, she completed her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at the University of Tennessee. She is native to the Knoxville area and has practiced in both Knox and Blount counties since graduating from veterinary school.

Dr. Archer has 2 dogs—Gizzi, a Boston Terrier, and Charlie, a Cavalier King Charles. She also has two cats, Mr. B and Henry, and 2 horses, Junie B and Marcy. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, and all of her four-legged babies on their farm.

Dr. Yu

Dr. Rachel Yu is a 2017 graduate of St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. She completed her final year of clinical training at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in College Station, TX. She is a Maryville native and couldn’t wait to return home. She enjoys spending time with her Great Dane, Moose, a shepherd mix, Aries, cat, Larrabee, and two goats, Opal and Loretta. When the weather is nice, Dr. Rachel enjoys fishing, swimming, gardening, and just being outdoors.

Dr. Harrison

Dr. Kristin Harrison graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. This was the culmination of a lifelong dream that started when she was about 4 years old. Over the years, a simple love of animals grew into a genuine desire to provide quality and compassionate care for them and their human counterparts through veterinary medicine. Born and raised in central Florida, Dr. Harrison obtained her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Florida. She then attended the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, Dr. Harrison practiced in Florida and then Colorado before making her way back to East Tennessee.

In her free time, Dr. Harrison enjoys hiking, reading, swimming, biking, and spending time with family and friends. She has two cats, Luna and Daniel, who have her well-trained in providing for their every whim.

Dr. Evans

Dr. Megan Evans is a recent 2023 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. During veterinary school, she also completed her master’s degree in Public Health in 2022. Prior to veterinary school, she completed her bachelor’s degree in Animal and Poultry Science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2018. Originally, she is from Virginia, but she has since fallen in love with the beautiful state of Tennessee and has decided to call it her new home. She has special interests in internal medicine, ophthalmology, infectious disease, and public health and cannot wait to begin her career here.

When she’s not working, Dr. Evans enjoys spending her time hiking, kayaking, antiquing, and hanging out with her family and friends. She has one energetic dog, Stark, that keeps her on her toes and a very spoiled cat, Chill Bill.

Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they?

My hobbies are spending quality time with my grandkids and traveling. Some of my favorite places I’ve visited are Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C., and pretty much any beach.

What is your favorite season and why?

Spring is my favorite season! I love when things are starting to come back to life after a dreary winter. The first smell of fresh cut grass, the flowers starting to bloom, and the temperature is first warming up after the cold weather.

What is your favorite thing about working at Chilhowee?

I have worked for Chilhowee for ten years. My favorite thing about working here is the amazing relationships you make with the employees and clients. I also enjoy getting to love the sweet pets brought in to see us!

My whole veterinary career has been here at Chilhowee since 2015. My favorite part is getting to work with the clients and patients I have long-term relationships.

My favorite season is spring, when cool air starts to warm up, and the sun stays longer! I can enjoy beautiful evenings with my husband and dog.

My favorite thing is how well we can work together; we’re like a family.

Been in the field for 11 years. Graduated Vet tech school in 2014. My favorite part is assisting in surgery.

What is your favorite season and why?
Spring, when allergies aren’t crazy yet and it’s the perfect temperature.

What is your favorite thing about working at Chilhowee?
The people I work with are like my second family and they are amazing with animals.

How long have you been in the veterinary field? What’s your favorite part?
I’ve been in the field for 17 years! I love every aspect of my job and the vet field as a whole. My favorite part would be the fact that I’m able to be a voice and advocate for the animals and their well-being.

What is your favorite movie?
I don’t have a favorite movie, but I love all scary/horror movies, along with any action film.

What is your favorite thing about working at Chilhowee?
The compassion that the doctors. have for the animals they treat. We all work together as a team for the same cause.

Fennec foxes. They are the world’s smallest foxes and are adorable. They have quite large ears for listening to the sounds of prey in the sand.

What is a fun fact about yourself? 

My grandparents and their two older siblings lived in Cades Cove before it became a national park. I have ancestors buried in the cemeteries there.
